In the aftermath of the GLF Nairobi 2023 Hybrid Conference, we aimed at disseminating A New Vision for Earth. The campaign focuses on rallying diverse and influential voices to endorse 6 global demands targeted at key players during COP28, including the international community, policymakers, public and private financiers, and the private sector.

The overarching goal is to shape discussions and perceptions within and beyond COP28, ensuring the inclusion of scientific priorities, insights from leading experts, and the perspectives of the most affected people and landscapes/seascapes. The demands align with the key outcomes of the GLF Nairobi Conference, centered around the core GLF themes of rights, food and livelihoods, landscape restoration, financing sustainable landscapes, and measuring progress.

6 global demands targeted at key players during COP28

We urgently need a New Vision for Earth. We ask the international community, policymakers, public and private financing, and the private sector to adopt these 6 global actions backed by knowledge and the latest research.

These include addressing the climate crisis, emphasizing collaborative food sovereignty, transforming financial models for inclusivity, and prioritizing a well-being economy within planetary boundaries. Democratizing knowledge creation and advocating for rights underscore the comprehensive framework for a resilient, inclusive, and eco-conscious global community:

1. Restore Landscapes and Seascapes: Redesign global food systems for resilience and unite for diverse, sovereign food production.
2. Unite For Food and Seed Sovereignty: Advocate coherent policies and subsidy redirection and scale regenerative agriculture for soil health.
3. Transform Financial Models: Adopt transparent models, redirecting capital sustainably.
4. Build A Well-Being Economy: Phase out fossil fuels, advocate well-being beyond GDP.
5. Democratize Knowledge Creation and Access: Promote free access, integrate diverse voices.
6. Advocate For Rights in Decision Making: Ensure fair access to resources, uphold Indigenous rights.

The conference featured two focused days: Day 1 centered on Africa’s sovereign solutions, exploring pathways to a sustainable and prosperous future for the continent. Day 2, dedicated to climate, aimed to craft a survival guide for a planet in crisis, paving the way for a fairer world ahead of COP28.

GLF Nairobi brought together a diverse coalition of influential voices, ranging from scientists, activists, and Indigenous leaders to financiers, women, youth, policymakers, and private sector representatives. As a united front, we collectively championed change and passionately advocated for meaningful action in these pivotal times.

This report presents the analysis conducted in the first half of 2023 by the LSFI Working Group on Sustainable Finance Education and Training. 

The working group had as an objective to analyse and strengthen the sustainable finance skills and competencies of Luxembourg’s financial centre. The analysis maps and identifies gaps and needs and proposes practical solutions to develop suitable sustainable finance-related education paths/training in Luxembourg. 

The report exposes the working group’s objective, the methodology and scope used for the analysis, the main findings, the solutions identified and the following steps to be carried out by the LSFI.

About the LSFI Working Group on Sustainable Finance Training and Education

During its first years of activity, the LSFI conducted a thorough mapping exercise to identify the gaps and needs of the financial sector when it comes to sustainable finance. Following this exercise and in line with the Luxembourg Sustainable Finance Strategy Action Plan, the LSFI decided to organise cross-sectoral working groups to help address these gaps and advance sustainable finance.

The overall goal behind these working groups is to help the financial players in Luxembourg transition towards increased sustainability and to ensure coordination between the involved actors by regularly exchanging information, fostering dialogue, sharing best practices, and proposing practical solutions.
The first of these working groups started in November 2022 to cover sustainable finance training and education.

Carbon Finance Learning Track 3

The Carbon Finance Learning Program is a series of webinars that helps share knowledge and expertise from carbon finance experts while providing insights through real-life case studies. The program targets, in particular, economic actors, local project developers, and young professionals/students.

Learning Track 3 on carbon finance for nature-based solutions aims to increase understanding of ways to sell carbon credits, negotiation processes in carbon markets, and the importance of benefit-sharing schemes.

This program is organized in the Luxembourg-GLF Finance for Nature Platform framework and was launched during the platform’s Digital Forum on Sustainable Finance for Nature-based Solutions.
